HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR MEASUREMENTS APPOINTMENT

Your measurements appointment is coming up and we’re looking forward to having you back in the studio. Before your appointment, it's important you read through all of the below information on what to expect in your appointment and how best to prepare for it.

The purpose of this appointment is to take your measurements and discuss sizing with you. Your appointment will run for 30 minutes.

SOME IMPORTANT NOTES ON…

WHAT TO WEAR

We take your measurements in your underwear, so we recommend:

Wearing a soft nude bra or something you feel comfortable in.

Avoiding bulky or padded styles, as they can distort measurements.

UNDERWEAR

We are happy to offer recommendations for underwear however it is your responsibility to find the right solution for your body and the underwear you choose to wear is down to you. All the information you need is in your Bride Guide.

Before your appointment, please advise us if you plan to wear anything padded.

DOCUMENTATION

During your appointment we will be taking pictures of you in your chosen piece(s). These pictures are strictly confidential and will only be accessed by our creative team to create your outfit.

GUESTS

We recommend coming to your measurements appointment solo if possible - it’s a more technical session and tends to run most smoothly when we can concentrate fully on the details with you. Of course, if you’d feel more comfortable bringing someone along, that’s absolutely fine too, we just ask that you all arrive together and on time.

SIZING

During your appointment, we’ll take a few key body measurements - your bust, waist and hip - to determine the closest size on our OWN size chart. From there, we’ll recommend the best fit based on your proportions.

You might find our suggested size differs slightly from your usual high street size - that’s completely normal. Every brand cuts differently, and our size chart is tailored to our specific designs and fabrics.

If your measurements sit between two sizes (as many do!), we’ll typically recommend making your outfit in the larger of the two. This is because:

Our seams are fine and delicate, so dresses are easier to take in than let out.

Choosing the larger size gives your tailor more room to make subtle adjustments during your fittings.

Once your measurements are confirmed, we’ll ask you to sign off on your size selection within the same week so we can begin production. Because we cut each dress to order, we recommend maintaining a consistent weight from the time of your appointment through to your wedding day. We cannot be held responsible if your dress does not fit due to measurements changing up or down.

SPLIT SIZING - WHAT IT IS AND WHEN IT’S NEEDED

In some cases, your top and bottom measurements might fall into different sizes — for example, a size 10 on top and a size 14 on the bottom. In this instance, your stylist may recommend split sizing, where we make the top and bottom of your outfit in different sizes to help achieve the best overall fit.

Because this is a more custom construction process, it does carry a small additional charge. Your stylist will always talk this through with you during your appointment if they feel it’s the right option. It may also be something they recommend afterward after consultation with our atelier.

Split sizing helps reduce the amount of alteration work required later and can be especially useful for certain silhouettes.

PLANNING AHEAD OF THE WEDDING DAY

Book your alterations in advance - typically your dress will arrive around 8 weeks before your wedding (this may differ for rush orders - you will be advised of this by your stylist). If you’d like to have your alterations with us, we offer fittings on a first come first served basis as we have limited capacity at the atelier, alternatively there are some great seamstress recommendations in our BRIDE GUIDE

Consider ordering double-sided fashion tape, nipple covers, and shapewear early so you can test them with your outfit.

Remember: this is just the beginning! Your fittings (with OWN or your preferred seamstress) will allow you to fine-tune the fit even further.
