We’ve been speaking to lots of you who have moved your weddings from the height of summer to the middle of winter and one of the things you keep asking about is winter outerwear. Lots of you are worried about keeping warm and finding something that will go with the outfit you have already bought / what you originally had in mind.

At first glance it might seem that there aren’t many options in the shops right now, given the time of year. However if you’re clever, there are actually lots of cool and timeless options (available now) and best of all, you’ll want to wear them long after the wedding.

Here are some of our favourite chic winter outerwear looks:

Try similar The OWN Studio STYLE 004 Tuxedo Jacket £650Mango £179.99 , All Saints £106 , Ganni £209 , All Saints £106 , Iris and Ink £250. Central image via @joannabrownphotos.

A tuxedo jacket or longer coat slouched over a slinky slip is our go-to winter wedding look - relaxed, minimal and f-ing cool. We love how it gives you two very different looks and feels unexpected and anti-trad - perfect for the modern bride who likes to do things differently.

Try Saks Potts £1204 , Shrimps £550 , eBay or Vestiare

Soft candlelight, twinkling fairy lights and glistening snow - there’s something about the romance of Autumn/ Winter weddings that really lends itself to old-school Hollywood glamour. When it comes to outerwear, that means faux fur and feathers. Keep it oversized and structured for a more contemporary look. Saks Potts does the best faux fur trim statement coats, while Shrimps does really fun faux fur pieces. eBay is also a great place to pick up some one-of-a-kind vintage pieces. If you’re looking for something bespoke, let us know - we’d be happy to help.

Try similar Sandro £270 , Stella McCartney £1481 , JOSEPH  £467

Something borrowed - something blue! We love the idea of introducing a bridal tradition into your wedding wardrobe in a rather unexpected and contemporary way.  Keep your flowers tonal and include blue accents - try thistle, berries or simple forget-me-nots.

When it comes to bridesmaid outerwear looks, it might be worth thinking a little outside the box. What about a slouchy wool jumper topped off with a cool leather, gold buckled belt to cinch the waist in (a la Olivia Palmero’s iconic wedding look)?

We’re not big fans of the traditional pashmina vibe but we do like the idea of mixing two textures - like wool and silk - together. And, when styled in the right way, this sort of look can look very cool. Keep it oversized - a wool blanket might be better (you can always get it altered and taken in slightly if it drowns you) and cinch it in with a belt or pin it at the shoulder to create more of a directional look. You can even get them monogrammed with your bridesmaids initials, making them into a cool gift to keep long after the wedding. Look to Burberry’s 2014 A/W runway for inspiration.

Faux fur is another great option for bridesmaids - again, vintage finds on eBay will be your best option. If you’re not au fait with bargain hunting on eBay, it is a real skill - this blog teaches you how to shop it like a master. While you won’t be able to find identical coats for all your bridesmaids, we love the idea of making it really tonal and mixing and matching your outerwear - each piece will feel really unique and individual.
