WEDDING JEWELLERY: 10 trends you need to know

Let’s talk wedding jewellery. If you’re anything like us, you’ll be steering well clear of traditional wedding jewels (pearl and diamond drop earrings are so passe, darling). But it is a tricky balance. You want timeless pieces that will last … but you also want pieces you’ll love and wear everyday. And it’s so important to get it right - when your outfit is minimalistic white, your accessories are everything. Bit of a conundrum right? These are the key trends we would invest in.

1. ANTIQUE GOLD

Antique gold jewellery is classic wedding fodder - layer it up to give it a contemporary twist.  We love fifth generation jewellers A R Ullman in Hatton Garden for their mountains of fabulous gold necklaces or try Missoma for a super thin chain.

2. PEARLY WHITES

No longer the poor relation, pearls have been rescued from the twinset and given a 21st century update. Keep yours contemporary with unusual, uneven shapes such as this freshwater pearl necklace from Anissa Kermiche or if you’re looking to splurge, try Mizuki or Sophie Buhai for a twist on the traditional.

3. ANKLETS

After years spent languishing in the archives, 2019 was the year of the anklet. If you’re getting married on a beach a cool anklet is a must - and of course, perfect for your honeymoon glam afterwards. We have a big obsession with this piece from Alighieri

4. COLOUR

While coloured accessories aren’t necessarily the traditional option for brides, we think strong accents provide an instant modern lift to any all-white outfit. We’re obsessed with these beaded Simone Rocha hoops. Or if you’re feeling bold and yet to find your ‘someth  ing blue’, these Cult Gaia hoops will do you nicely.

5. DIAMONDS

You can’t get more traditional bridal than a diamond and pearl drop earring but when worn in a more contemporary setting, diamonds still exude cool. We love the classic tennis bracelet (which you can layer up with thin chains) or this twist on the traditional signet ring from Zoe & Morgan.

6. CHOKERS

2019 was the year of the 90s throwback and the humble choker has experienced something of a renaissance (thankfully not the black stretch chokers we all used to wear to school discos). You’ll see from our lookbook that we are obsessed with this piece from Alighieri. Laura Lombardi also does a very cool antique looking shorter gold chain that we love too.

7. SCULPTURAL PIECES

Sculptural jewellery is most definitely having a moment but these pieces in particular really have longevity. Go to Completed Works or Annisa Kermiche for the coolest anti bridal jewellery out there.

8. STATEMENT BAGS

Brides never used to carry bags but if you’re getting married in the city and travelling between venues, a bag is an essential. We’ve spotted a few designers using pearls as interesting embellishments - check out this (currently sold out!) stunner from Cult Gaia and Simone Rocha’s pearl bags

9. EAR CUFFS

This is one trend that isn’t going away and we’ve seen lots of them at weddings this year - stackable, pearls, geometric, chunky. We like this pearl option from Completed Works.

10. THE HUMBLE HEADBAND

We can blame Miuccia Prada for the headband craze that has swept the four corners of the world but whilst it is a trend, we’re confident it’s not a fad. Best thing about wearing one on your wedding day is your hair will always look on point. If you’re looking to invest, try Sophie Buhai’s cult pearl headband. For the ultimate bridesmaid hairstyle try our matching scrunchies for a directional look.
