HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR TOILE FITTING

WHAT TO BRING

If you have them, please bring along the shoes you plan to wear on the day as well as any underwear you would like to try. If you don't have these thats okay - we'll have shoes on hand for you to try with your outfit. However it's important to note you will need both your shoes and underwear for your shell fitting.

WHAT TO EXPECT

please refer to the BRIDE GUIDE you have been sent for a full checklist on things to look out for in your fitting

This fitting will be carried out by our Head of Atelier along with one of our co-founders. Your toile fitting is the first stage in your bespoke fittings process where we'll show you a mock up of your bespoke outfit in your measurements in a cotton fabric. Here you will have the opportunity to feed into the design of the dress and interrogate every part of the design and most importantly the fit. We’ll drape, pin and draw onto the fabric to help us visualise the look in the final fabric.

Things like sleeves might still be detached and it won’t have any trimmings (like pearls and buttons) attached. This is because it is a rough mock up of the final dress.

Please take your time during the fitting to check over every detail of the dress and ask as many questions as you like - our atelier team is world class and incredibly knowledgeable, so please take their advice as they will know how to alter the dress based on your body and the desired fit.

You are welcome to bring one other person along to your fitting with you, we do not recommend a bigger group because it can be distracting for you.

WHAT TO LOOK OUT FOR AT YOUR TOILE FITTING:

  • The overall design
    • Neckline shape
    • Strap width and length
    • Bust shape
    • Sleeve shape
    • Armholes
    • Seam placement
    • Waist
    • Skirt shape
  • Fit. This is your opportunity to feed into how you would like the fit of the garment across all areas so please give us as much insight as possible in terms of how the dress feels and how you see it fitting in the final fabric
  • Train and sleeve length - again we can refine the exact length at your next fitting but if you want to make the train longer or much shorter please let us know at this point

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER MY FITTING?

Following your toile, we'll send across extensive notes from your fitting outlining everything that was discussed and agreed. Once you have confirmed you're happy with the notes, we'll then create your outfit in the final fabric! It's important to voice any thoughts you have following your toile fitting before we move to the shell stage to ensure you're happy with every element of your outfit.

AN IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT YOUR FITTING

We are proud to have worked with many brides over the years so we totally understand the emphasis and emotion placed on milestone moments such as dress fittings. We understand excitement and emotions are running high. That said, please remember to always treat our team with the kindness and respect they deserve. They are incredibly dedicated and have worked extremely hard on your gown; and they will always go above and beyond to ensure you have the best possible experience at your fitting. We all want the same outcome - for you to feel incredible - and we will always do our best to make you feel that way. If you have any queries or questions we are always here to help but please note, rudeness or abuse toward our team is not tolerated and we reserve the right to not fit you in your gown if our team are abused or subject to unacceptable behaviour.

WHERE IS MY FITTING?

Fittings take place at The OWN Studio atelier in Shoreditch, you will receive the address in your booking confirmation.

UNDERWEAR RECOMMENDATIONS

While we do try and help as much as possible by recommending underwear brands and specialists, the underwear you choose to wear is your responsibility.

For shapewear,  SKIMS has an amazing range. The solution that is right for you depends on how much coverage you are looking for, just ensure they are nude and seam free.

Like anything lingerie related, there isn’t one fixed solution as we all have different shapes so it’s worth trialling a few options. When it comes to nipple covers, silicone covers work best for some, whereas others prefer the fabric covers. We recommend Nippies or Nood for our pieces.

It is common for dresses (particularly backless styles) to be fixed in place using double sided fashion tape - these strips are excellent and used by all stylists on the red carpet - so it is a good idea to have some of these to hand on the day!

Top tip -  keep the labels and tags on until you are satisfied it works with your outfit so you can return anything that you don’t use.
