HONEYMOON GUIDE: THE HIDDEN GEMS OF PROVENCE

The region of Provence has to be one of the most romantic honeymoon or mini-moon destinations in Europe. From its rugged coastline and idyllic countryside to its world-class food and medieval architecture, this beautiful area really does have it all. Oh, and did we mention it’s the rosé capital of the world?

Coastal hotspots Cannes, Nice and St Tropez are well worth a visit (especially for beach-club lunches, people watching and nightlife) but they can get very crowded in the summer months. For the most authentic Provence experience, a trip to these hidden gems is a must:

St. Paul de Vence

This picturesque medieval hilltop village is an art-lover’s paradise. As you walk through the narrow cobbled streets you’ll find an abundance of charming art galleries, traditional shops and boutiques, each as irresistible as the next. Once you’ve had your fix of art and culture, walk to the walled outskirts of the village and soak up the beautiful view of the unspoilt Provence countryside.

A visit to St Paul de Vence isn’t complete without lunch at La Colombe d’or, a traditional restaurant-meets-museum decorated with a priceless collection of modern art from masters such as Picasso and Matisse. Make sure you ask for a table on the terrace and book well in advance!

Grasse

The region’s perfume capital, Grasse is a must-visit for those with a nose for beautiful scents. Stay at La Bastide Saint-Antoine for breathtaking views and stunning grounds, not to mention delicious food. Don’t believe us? Lourges

The award winning wine is reason enough to visit this area, but if that’s not enough to convince you, it’s also home to ancient ruins, olive groves, and horse riding. Even if you don’t stay there, a visit to luxury hotel and wine-making estate Chateau de Berne is an absolute must. Here you can enjoy everything from wine tasting and gastronomic cuisine to spa treatments and relaxation by the pool - all in the most exquisite surroundings.

Mougins

This medieval village is absolutely magical, and bursting at the seams with galleries, cobbled streets, picturesque squares, and incredible restaurants. With the likes of Picasso, Cocteau, Man Ray and Leger all frequent visitors, it’s no wonder it is now home to a new dedicated art museum. If your feeling flush, book yourself a table on the terrace at Michelin Star restaurant (and 5 star hotel) Le Mas Candille, alternatively check out Aux Trois Etages (amazing people watching) or L'Amandier (amazing views). If you’re looking for somewhere to stay, boutique hotel Les Rosées is totally charming.

Ile Sainte Marguerite

Take a 15 minute boat ride from Cannes to the magical island of Ile Sainte Marguerite. Totally unspoilt and secluded, the island is predominantly covered by a pine and eucalyptus forest and is home to beautiful coves of crystal clear water. The main attraction on the island is the old Roman fort which you can explore as part of a walk. There are two beach restaurants on the island but they are super pricey, so we’d suggest taking a posh picnic with you to eat in a secluded spot.
