The under-the-radar openings in Paris, Sicily and beyond

Looking for somewhere new to disappear to this autumn? Whether you’re after late-season sun, a cosy weekend away or a full-blown wellness retreat, 2026 has delivered plenty of hotel openings worth travelling for.

From a fabulous Paris address famed for its Fashion Week after-parties to Christian Louboutin’s new Portuguese retreat overlooking the Melides lagoon, these launches promise much more than simply excellent food and luxury spa treatments.

Here, team 374 shares the new hotels firmly on our radar.

1. Casa Bonavita, Malta

One for the design lovers: Casa Bonavita is a new 17-room hotel set within a beautifully restored 18th century palazzo in the Maltese village of Attard. The passion project of The Rug Company founders Christopher and Suzanne Sharp, interiors are layered with antiques, Sicilian tiles, hand-painted details and pieces collected over decades. There are lush gardens, two pools and a subterranean spa, while the restaurant serves Mediterranean food using seasonal local produce. Rooms start from around €390 a night.

2. Villa Timeo, Taormina, Italy

Belmond and Sicily is already a seriously tempting combination, but the reopening of Villa Timeo this June gives us yet another reason to book a flight to Taormina. The historic 21-room property has undergone a suitably glamorous redesign, complete with a Dior spa, luxurious suites with knockout views and old-school Sicilian glamour at every turn. Rooms start from around €1,500 per night.

3. Vermelho Lagoa, Melides, Portugal

Christian Louboutin is quietly turning the Portuguese village of Melides into a design destination in its own right, with his second hotel - Vermelho Lagoa - opening there next year. With just 10 suites overlooking the beautiful lagoon, this is an even more intimate proposition: small, escapist and utterly Instagrammable. Rates are yet to be announced, but its sister property, Vermelho Melides, starts from around €500 a night.

4. Quinta Filippa, Lage, Portugal

A former village bread house, the 16-room Quinta Filippa is a beautifully rustic bolthole that celebrates the joys of morning swims, forest meditation and living life at a slower pace. A true sanctuary from modern life, head here for yoga, hiking, farm-to-table dining and days spent lounging in the spa. Rooms start from around €250 per night.

5. Riviera Menorca, Ciutadella, Menorca

Designed as a deliberate antidote to the beige hotel trend, Riviera Menorca champions 1970s-inspired interiors with its bold orange stripes and pops of mustard. Expect colour, nostalgia and plenty of personality - this is the one we’d book when dressing up for dinner and sipping Negronis are firmly on the holiday agenda. Rooms start from around £140 a night.

6. L'Aventure, Paris, France

Who can say no to a weekend in Paris? Not us - and certainly not if it means staying at the newly opened L’Aventure, an intimate boutique hotel just minutes from the Arc de Triomphe. With theatrical interiors, a restaurant and a private club downstairs (already a favourite for Fashion Week after-parties), check in, dress up and don’t plan on an early night. Rooms start from around €490 per night.

7. Relais d’Amboise, Loire Valley

The team behind Cap Rocat, Torralbenc and Vermelho is heading to the Loire Valley with Relais d’Amboise, opening this October. Set beneath the Royal Château of Amboise, the 63-room hotel combines two historic properties overlooking the Loire, with elegant interiors, a rooftop bar and a Clarins spa carved into ancient limestone caves. Add château views and Michelin-starred dining, and you have all the ingredients for a seriously romantic French escape.
